Will this Be the Year for the Edna Cowboys?

A state title has eluded them, the Cowboys of Edna, ever since their first football game over a century ago. But this could be the year they grab it.

The Cowboys are 13-0 as they battle Llano this Friday (12-1) in San Antonio's Heroes stadium.

Cowboy Coach Jimmiie Mitchell has his team ready to take on the Yellowjackets and advance to the semi-final round in 3AD1. Mitchell is in his 5th year at Edna. Previously, he was the head coach at Manor.

Llano and Edna have had two foes in common during the 2024 season, Goliad and Orange Grove. And Llano and Edna each won both games by similar margins, with the differences not suggesting much if anything.

Llano's only loss was to Comanche, on Sept. 6th.

Llano head coach Matt Green relies on sophomore quarterback Luke Davis to keep his offense going, with considerable assistance from running back Trey Mote. Brothers Gavin and Carsten Hays head up a staunch Leopard defense.

Senior Chase Schubert quarterbacks for the Cowboys, frequently passing to Rj Coplin for big gains in the air.

The winner will face the winner of Malakoff vs. Liberty-Eylau (11-2) of Texarkana.

Malakoff is the defending champion in 3AD1 and is also undefeated at 13-0 going into Friday night's encounter with Liberty-Eylau.
